This book was actually so funny. Omar is literally always getting himself into some kind of chaos and it makes the story super entertaining. I liked the drawings because they make it feel more real and not boring. It’s just a really good, light book that makes you smile the whole time.
We were reading this book on the day of the Christchurch terror attack. Discussing Omar's feelings when confronted with islamophobia, helped us have other more serious discussions in a easy relatable way. While this book tackles serious issues, it manages to be funny too. It often had us in stitches!
I read this as a read aloud to my 6 yr old and 4 yr old and we all thoroughly enjoyed this book. My kids were begging for an extra chapter every time I stopped. It is cute and funny and I would recommend it for older and younger kids.
I am 9 years old and I really enjoyed reading this book. It reminded me of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I completed reading it in about an hour and I burst out laughing in many places. I liked that the characters were Muslim because I could relate to them. I liked how Omar made dua when he and Daniel needed help because that’s what Muslims do. I would highly recommend this book to other Muslim children around my age.
What a wonderfully written book! Filled with lots of laughter that is is totally relatable with light hearted moments whilst tackling serious issues facing our Muslim kids today! Perfect to change mindsets against “the Muslims” and give our Muslim children an identity in the world today! As a parent I found myself giggling to many of the scenarios, and it’s so good for us to start speaking up about them ❤️
